TWO THINGS WE CAN LEARN FROM EUROPE

The Republicans love to pretend that anything to do with social welfare or leveling exonomci opportunity in America is a copy of European socialism. Ironically, it is the Republicans whp arte copying Europe with their fervent “need” to reduce federal borrowing, cut the deficit and incidentally reduce spending on human welfare.  Just as some Republicans still rave about communists in government (as if they wouldn;t seel their grandmother for China’s communist state and its 7% annual growth rate and reguilated businesses and lack of anti-pollution laws), the still think socialism is European.

Well, Europe is now run by conservative, pro-banking interests.  Thjus Greece and other debtors are not allowed to default (as Argentina once did) and must continue to cut government spending and jobs.  So how’s that woprking out?  Shrinking economy and genrral strikes in multiple nations.  Too bad Rmoney and Ryan didn’ty gegt to do that here.  That’s lesson #1.

Second lesson: that no abortion under any circumstance feeling that some righteous Repubs have deep in gtheir male souls…hows that working out?  Read this travesty of inhumanity from good old Catholic Ireland.  Wanna bet the Pope will have nothing to say on this score, nor the Islamic mullahs nor the Mormon church or any of the other paternalistic, medieval belief systems that still enslave women or worse.  Abortion bans are not in the interest of women.  That’s Lesson #2.

In reporting on the Ireland death of the suffering woman who repeatedly asked for an abortion, even Fox News says tdhe Irish government has never clarified its abortion rules out of fear of conservative voters.  That is the future the social conservativw wing of Republicanism still will fight to bring back to America.  Forward to the 1950s.  That is why the next Supreme Couyrt appointees are so critical.  Inadvertent Lesson #3 from Europe

I really enjoyed this post! I feel so blessed to live in France where all of our basic human needs (there are exceptions of course) are met. I had open heart surgery last year. First of all I had a team of highly skilled doctors taking care of me (I’m only 40, and a heart attack at 40 is unusual and super scary) but best of all, it did not cost me a cent. So to resume, best doctors and absolutely free of charge. We don’t necessarily pay more taxes than I used to when I lived in America… Bottom line, if the same thing had happened to me when I lived in the states, I would be in debt for the rest of my natural life… Might as well die… Great post! Great blog!

You’re absolutely right. Over here in Europe it doesn’t feel like some far-left utopia at the moment.
