UPDATE, SEPT. 22: A famous truism I learned decades ago: consistency is the hobgobblin of small minds. Thus it was totally predictable that the NRA would call for ever more armed guards. How else to sell guns and more ammo? That’s our purpose here on earth isn’t it? Gu8ns all around.
So here’s the link to the story on NRA’s CEO calling for more armed guards. Gotta be consistent. Never question, never explain.
I’m gunna briefly point to one of the National Rifle Association’s favorite clichés. The only answer to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. So arm yourself, good guys.
We’ve now had two mass killings at U.S. military bases in the U.S. Each by a military-trained male. One at Ft. Hood Texas, then recently in Washington D.C. There are always good guys with guns at military bases. Right? Maybe even more than one.
That’s one of the things we spend billion$ on, arming our military.
Why they doesn’t the Pentagon already have and use little man-sized drones to take out shooters is beyond me. We can kill some guy we hate in Yemen but can’t take out an assassin on our own military base? Huh?
Maybe the NRA needs to re-think it’s little formula. Don’t you really need one more good guy than there are bullets in the bad guy’s magazine? A thirty-round magazine in the hand of a really bad guy with good aim might require 31 good guys with guns. So perhaps the NRA needs to finally admit: The magazine size plus one more good guy with a gun is equal to a bad guy with a loaded magazine in his weapon.
This could be full employment for all guys who really like guns. Fifty or more guards at each elementary school. All armed with mega-magazines, just in case. That would sure make me feel safer.
I currently refuse to go anywhere near an elementary or high school or military base. Too unsafe. I watch my movies at home. Don’t even park near a Starbuck’s where open carry has led to more than one “accidental” shooting. Where loaded GUNS are around there is no such things as an accident; there are intentional shootings and those that simply comply with nature’s law of averages. No amount of prayer makes a loaded gun safe.
I’m sure Glock and Winchester and those guys would foot the bill for all those needed minimum-wage guards. Keep ‘em under 30 hours per week and you don’t even have to give ‘em medical benies. Think of the sales of weapons they’d make. And you could save on not giving them background checks which are clearly worthless. We have the physical evidence as bodies pile up from military workers killing their own.
And let’s not even discuss mental health as it relates to mass murderers. We don’t even require sanity to serve in Congress. And we’ve closed our hospitals and treatment centers for the mentally ill. We have privatized them to their neighbors, their families, the sidewalks and backwoods.
Where are the background check on “lawmakers” collecting those big “donations” from gun makers, oil companies, banks and hedge funds, Koch Bros and all the other upstanding folk who have only our best interests at heart and never consider their own personal profit? Remember it was a serving Congressman who actually said that women’s bodies can reject pregnancy after a rape. Science: RIP.
